Minutes: The School Board recognized Constance Higginbotham, Connie Hrisko, Sharon Rodatz and Anne Slater for their efforts in promoting  legislation that, if passed, could greatly reduce the hardship on teachers required to obtain both the Reading and ESOL Endorsements.

No action was taken on this item. The School Board will review the list of names that was provided for consideration and be ready to narrow the list at the June meeting.   Additional names will also be solicited from the public by emailing any suggestions to the school board or district office.

62. Guaranteed Maximum Price Site Package for Elementary School "X"

Minutes: The contractor for Construction Management At Risk Services for Elementary School “X” is Skanska USA Building Inc.  The Guaranteed Maximum Price Site Package for this project is $3,222,770.00 for a total Guaranteed Maximum Price of $24,018,016.00.  The project anticipates a May 23, 2007 Notice to Proceed, with Substantial Completion on July 31, 2008.  Final Completion is to be achieved August 29, 2008.  Funding for this project is Part III Capital Outlay and is currently budgeted and identified within our 2006-2007 Educational Facilities Plan.

Minutes: Mrs. Higginbotham spoke briefly on behalf of the Clay County Education Association concerning current education issues.

School Board's Requests
64. Current Issues

Minutes: 

The following issues were discussed briefly:

  • The connecting road between CR 220 and Blanding Blvd. will not be completed prior to the opening of Coppergate Elementary.
  • Approvals for Special Pupil Requests should give clear notification to students concerning the 1 year waiting period to participate in athletics.
  • The Orange Park Town Council has passed a Resolution supporting the citizens' requests to allow their students in the neighborhood around Orange Park Elementary to attend OPE as their neighborhood school.
  • Mrs. Adams will present information to the Board at the June meeting concerning the pilot program to provide buses for academy students.
  • Mr. Moore is looking at new software that would archive the email system.
  • All Clay County high school graduations are held on the same night due to vandalism and crowd control issues.  Previously, when graduations were on separate nights, there were problems with vandalism to the schools and in the parking lots when students from other high schools showed up at opposing school graduations.
